Much as I enjoy realism in photography, I should perhaps call it "realistic-ism", because it is not so much reality as a reflection of my fantasy of what reality could or should be, that I like to compose images of. By selectively choosing which moments to share, one can concoct an elaborate illusion of one's life (this is the psychological motivation behind the popularity of social networking). I like to use this trick to imagine a world that I'd enjoy living in - one where people are kinder and less judgmental, more liberated but possessing maturity and responsibility - and share that with the world. You gotta fake it 'til you make it.
